60 miles. Tonight, I had the police called on me.
Hey Kentucky, 2 thumbs up so far! Gentle rolling hills, beautiful landscapes and kind people! We even had a police escort around some S curves; he blocked traffic so that we could maneuver safely. Thanks, police man!
McKinley and I stopped in at the bike shop so she could get her gears adjusted. While we waited, the shop owners fed us sandwiches and cookies. And never charged McKinley for the work they did. They don't often see touring cyclists since we had to hop off route, and were estatic for us to swing by. Gladys from the post office apparently phoned the shop to let them know we were en route. What a neat little town where everyone knows everyone.
Tonight we checked into a Super 8. Luckily, McKinley hadn't removed her contacts yet and spotted a roach running up the frige. After getting all New Jersey on the manager for refusing to refund our money, he called the police on me. I laughed. They came to inspect the dead roach. And they laughed. What a waste of their time. And the shitty business man of a manager only refunded us half of our money because we "used the room" for 2.5 hours. I wasn't being unreasonable, so I'm still confused about why he called the police. But now McKinley and I have another story to add to the collection. My first ever roach motel. And I've slept in a lot of crappy places.
So we rode our bikes basically next door at 10:30 pm after riding all day to check in to another motel.
Moral of the story: boycott Super 8, they refuse to refund your money once you've used the room, even if it's a roach motel shit hole.
Patrice, lv ur writing about your adventure! I've seen examples of barn quilts! They are really interesting. I'm glad the dogs r at bay! A dog get me several years ago. What happened to fences and leashes!!! Be careful & enjoy the journey! Donna
